Hyacinth, a young girl with very pale skin, lives in a stilt hut by the river with her foster parents, Sopiya and Basyu. Her father, wary of her unknown origin, keeps Hyacinth secluded. But when she becomes an adolescent, Hyacinth starts to lose her vision as unnatural events unfold – strange whispers call her to a banyan tree, fire burns over water, and fish rain down from the sky. Basyu believes Hyacinth is unknowingly causing these changes and disappears to find her a cure. He resurfaces years later, without aging a day, but with a suspicious remedy for her. Hyacinth must decide whether to trust her father and his obscure past or seek a cure by herself elsewhere, before her vision fades completely and the fate of the marshland is left to uncertainty.

In 2018, producer Keisha Halili engaged Bagane Fiola to direct the short film, “Pulangui.” It was the first collaborations of Origane Films and Micromedia Productions. “Pulangui” was produced in one of the mystical wetlands of Mindanao, the Ligawasan marsh in the province of Maguindanao. It is also where the initial concept of “Hyacinth and the Tangled Tales of a Boatman” was inspired, a feature fantasy drama to be produced by Keisha’s Halili.
